Satsuma

Satsuma is a small Putnam County community on Highway 17, halfway between Palatka and Crescent City. Named after the satsuma orange that used to grow here by the millions, Satsuma is now mostly a quiet residential area dotted with fishing camps, marine repair shops, and a craft brewery that's become a regional destination in its own right.

Bog Brewing Company — technically in the historic West King district of St. Augustine but with strong Satsuma roots — pulls in beer drinkers from across Northeast Florida. Closer to home, Log Cabin Winery produces small-batch fruit wines, and Brenner Marine Construction is one of the more respected dock and bulkhead builders along this stretch of the river. Satsuma is a 15-minute drive from Welaka and 10 minutes from Crescent City — small, easy to miss, worth knowing about.
