Tucked just south of a bend in the St. Johns River, Dunns Creek State Park covers over 6,200 acres, making it a go-to spot for outdoor lovers. Whether you’re into soaking up the scenery or spotting wildlife, this park is packed with experiences waiting for you.

Start at the main entrance on 320 Sisco Road in Pomona Park, where a 2-mile paved drive winds through some awesome natural areas. The drive ends at Dunns Creek, a great spot for fishing or paddling. You’ll find an ADA-compliant kayak launch and a soft launch area, both just a short walk from the parking lot. Plus, there are picnic tables and grills by the creek—perfect for a relaxed lunch in the shade. Restrooms are close by too.

If you’re up for a bit more adventure, the park has over 60 miles of service roads that cut through a variety of ecosystems, from sandhills with longleaf pines to sand pine scrub. While some entrances are blocked off to keep out dirt bikes and ATVs, the roads are open to hikers, horseback riders, and other nature fans. These aren’t marked trails, so be sure to use a trail app to keep from getting lost.

There’s also a second entrance on Hwy 17 near Blue Pond, where you can dive into a more rugged experience. The 1.5-mile yellow trail is perfect for hiking or biking and leads you to the clear waters of Blue Pond. At the end of the main paved road, you’ll find the start of four blazed trails, each offering a unique trek through the park’s diverse landscapes. This area also has more picnic spots, grills, parking, and another solid fishing spot.

Dunns Creek State Park isn’t just a place to visit—it’s a spot to really get into Florida’s natural side. Stay in the loop with Friends of Dunns Creek State Park on Facebook for the latest on events and membership, so you never miss out on the action.
